Emo is a genre of cathartic punk/alt rock music derived from hardcore known for its personal lyricism, loud/soft dynamics, and occasionally twinkly guitar work which all follow a distinct history and lineage. Resulting from its punk and hardcore roots, emo has a strong sense of DIY ethics, modesty, and authenticity.
