About Anfield

Anfield is among the most famous settings in football, a stage for sporting storytelling replete with both drama and passion. To Liverpool and its citizens, the club's home ground is much more than a place where men in short pants kick an inflated leather sphere; it is the essence of what it means to be a Scouser.

The one-of-a-kind nature of Anfield — both unnerving to opponents and comically homey to its supporters — creates an environment where football feels more like magic. Its cozy structure heightens that sensation of intimacy, especially on those legendary nights of continental competition.

Anfield History

Liverpool's history as a football club did not start at Anfield but rather at Goodison Park. Everton Football Club was the first to call Anfield home. They left, not on their own terms, but when financial disagreements with the stadium's owner became too great to bridge. In 1892, Liverpool FC, formed just a few months prior, took up residence and has been there ever since, with an interlude of about six months in the early 1890s when the club did not exist.

The Spion Kop, constructed in 1906, takes its name from a hill where soldiers from Liverpool fell during the Boer War. Anfield's record turnout — 61,905 — was for a match against Wolves in 1952. The stadium went all-seater in 1994 after the Hillsborough disaster.

Anfield Facts and Figures

Following the renovation of the Main Stand, Anfield now accommodates 54,074 spectators while maintaining an atmosphere of both intimacy and intensity. The pitch dimensions of 101 by 68 meters suit Liverpool's style perfectly.

Prominent attributes encompass the Shankly Gates (1982), the Hillsborough memorial, and the celebrated "This Is Anfield" notice within the tunnel. More than £110 million has been invested in recent enhancements, which have broadened seating and updated amenities.

Anfield Seating Guide

The four stands at Anfield — the Main Stand, Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand, Anfield Road End, and the Kop — offer each a different experience.

Premium facilities and sightlines are what you get in the Main Stand, especially if you're sitting in the upper tiers, where the kind of tactical play that commands such views can be more readily appreciated. The Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand has a lively atmosphere and offers good views of the pitch. For pure emotion, though, nothing beats the Kop, but seats there are the hardest to secure.

Best seats at Anfield

The "best" seats ultimately depend on what you like. If you want drive and focus, the main stand is the best. There's no better place to sit and feel the fans' devotion when the team really needs its supporters. There's no better place to sense the spine-tingling tension that punctuates any crucial match.

Anfield Seating Chart

Anfield possesses a typical four-stand layout. Dominating the stadium is the Main Stand, which has three tiers and approximately 20,500 seats, all with superior creature comforts.

The Anfield Road End — currently under construction — welcomes home and away supporters. The Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand provides splendid perspectives from its upper reaches. The Kop, a single-tier stand for 12,000 fans, is renowned for the way its collective voice renders matches memorable.

How to get to Anfield

Reaching Anfield requires arranging and some foresight, particularly on matchdays. The stadium lies almost 2 miles from the very heart of Liverpool. There are a number of different ways to make that distance.

The most accessible airport for international supporters is Liverpool John Lennon Airport. It is well connected to Liverpool and even better so for anyone traveling into the match. The only thing simpler than clearing customs at John Lennon is catching a shuttle directly into the city.

Understanding the local area allows for better timing and choice of routes. The roads around Anfield get jammed, and have to be shut down to keep people safe, just before the game gets underway.

Parking at Anfield

Because of the residential surroundings, parking is limited. Official lots give priority to staff, players, and persons with accessibility needs.

Matchday street parking suffers from an abundance of restrictions, with it all but banning anyone but residents and their guests from the public spaces outside their homes. Matchday street parking enjoys the kind of enforcement you would hope for in a space that's supposed to be, for residents only, a public space with laws against apparently reasonable, but really not, behaviors.

The most convenient option is to use central parking in Liverpool and get a taxi or shuttle to the game. The next best option is park-and-ride service from Sandhills station. This method uses a combination of train and foot to get fans from the park-and-ride to the vicinity of the game.

Public Transportation to Anfield

Taking public transport is a stress-free choice. The Soccerbus from Sandhills station operates direct services two hours before kickoff and returns after the match.

Arriva runs 26 routes from the city center to Anfield. The special 917 route runs only on match days. Buses mostly leave from Queen Square Bus Station and take about half an hour to reach Anfield.

For groups, taxis and rideshares are nearly always the best choice. They allow for shared costs and can be pretty much door-to-door with only a little more walking. They're also great for when your destination is, say, a bar down a short alley. And taxis and rideshares can be used in a pinch when the public transportation system is down.

Anfield Facilities

The modern infrastructure at Anfield includes extensive amenities for supporters. Several concession stands and ample restrooms line the concourses, where you can also find a few more shops that are not selling team merchandise.

The stadium has been equipped with a series of wider concourses and an expanded menu of food and drink options in order to tend to the prospect of enlarged crowds at any given time. Digital signage avails itself of the broad canvas afforded by the place and its capacity to update the fans in attendance while also working to keep the folks at home hooked into the presentation of the event.

A package of hospitality in a luxury experience gives a VIP or some sort of special treatment to the customer. It takes them above and beyond what a normal customer would receive. It may include spa days, access to lounges, and in this case, fine dining and the sort of appearances that club legends make.

Food and Drinks at Anfield

The food options at Anfield are a blend of long-standing tradition and contemporary tastes. They have taken the concept of the food truck to new levels, with striking designs and stylish interiors for the kiosks. They have made scouse pies remain at the kiosks; meanwhile, gourmet burgers and pizzas have been added to the menu. They have also embraced the concept of healthy eating, serving food for vegans, vegetarians, and devotees of gluten-free diets.

Draft beer, soft drinks, coffee, and tea are all available as part of the beverage selection. Alcohol is sold at the stadium, but only if it is in accordance with Premier League rules — that is, not during the time between when the match begins and when it reaches the halfway point.

Accessibility at Anfield

Anfield has a design for accessibility, with more than 200 wheelchair bays throughout the various stands. Each bay offers around it companion seating and as good sightlines to the pitch as one can find in this stadium. The same holds true for the other 200-plus Access seats throughout the venue.

Seats that are within easy reach and stewards who have been trained to help those with mobility issues make it possible for all fans to enjoy the stadium experience. That goes for visually impaired fans, too; they can take advantage of a new audio commentary system.

Latest Anfield News

A tribute special will honor Diogo Jota ahead of the August 15, 2025, Premier League opener against Bournemouth. The supporters will put on a mosaic for Jota and observe a minute's silence.

Away from the football ground, progress is being made on the Anfield Road End expansion, which when complete should hold roughly 61,000 seats.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below, find useful responses to frequently asked questions about visiting Anfield.

How to purchase Anfield tickets?

Purchase tickets from Ticombo by first making an account, then navigating to the section for Liverpool FC, and finally selecting the match you wish to attend. You will see listed seats that are available, along with their respective sections and prices.

Choose your tickets, pay securely at checkout, and enjoy the immediate confirmation and the delivery of your tickets according to your selection.

How much are Anfield tickets?

Match ticket prices vary depending on the opponent, competition, seating, and when you buy them. Premier League match prices typically start at £45–60 in the Anfield Road End, with Kop or central Main Stand seats usually over £100.

Matches that are part of prestigious tournaments and that take place late in the season, or that are part of the Champions League, tend to be the most expensive both for fans and for TV broadcasters. The least expensive matches, comparatively, are those played in the earlier rounds of knockout tournaments.

What is the capacity of Anfield?

The present capacity is 54,074, due to the upgrade to the Main Stand in 2016, which added approximately 8,500 seats. Anfield is now the seventh-largest stadium in the Premier League, and it is set to soon expand and reach a capacity of 61,000. However, it is still not the largest stadium in the world nor the largest in England.

What time does Anfield open on match days?

Turnstiles often open two hours prior to kickoff, which is typically 1:00 PM for a 3:00 PM match. Opening time may vary with the importance of the match or the perceived need for security.

Anticipate having your security checked and plan to be there at least an hour beforehand to ensure you get in with plenty of time to spare and allow for any unforeseen circumstances that could cause a delay.
