MAPEI Stadium Città del Tricolore Tickets

Experience world-class events at MAPEI Stadium Città del Tricolore!

Nestled in Reggio Emilia, the heart of Emilia-Romagna, where industrial might meets a passionate sporting tradition, this stadium is a monument to Italian football culture. It is a site where not one but two historic clubs, U. S. Sassuolo Calcio and A. C. Reggiana, strive match after match to establish and reinforce their legacies.

What kind of "atmosfera" can you expect on a match day? Well, first, there is the predilection of the Italian for great theatre — an enthusiasm that, combined with a solid tactical underpinning, really makes Italian football unique. Then there is the matter of this ground as a "shared" venue. What may seem to many as a dual-occupancy arrangement has, in fact, created a common identity for these two clubs. Upon either club taking the pitch, to their respective opponents, MAPEI Stadium becomes a cauldron. This venue has a modernity to it, with a capacity of 27,200, that belies the sort of architecture one expects in Italy. However, it is Italian architecture. That, and a nod toward "old school," makes watching a match here something special.

About MAPEI Stadium Città del Tricolore

MAPEI Stadium Città del Tricolore History

The name "Città del Tricolore" signifies the important role Reggio Emilia has played in the unification of Italy. It was here, in this small, northern Italian city, that the flag was first hoisted. You could even say the flag was born here. At Matchdays, as a result, you're not just experiencing a sporting event. When you place your backside in a MAPEI seat, you're also imagining the birth of Italian nationalism, or at least the kind of forgettable nationalism that gets trotted out at half-remembered moments of Italian history.

Yet 2020 was also the year you could say Reggio Emilia was a city in formation. The year it was redefined by the modernity of the MAPEI, and by some newfound globality, too, thanks to the international capital — physical and otherwise — represented by MAPEI Stadium.

The stadium is built to modern European standards, which is to say that it looks much like a stadium should look. There are four separate but equal stands, and each one carries its weight in the bowl. The roof covers the audience, and then some. The corporate areas are for the people who need to be in corporate areas during a match, and they don't uglify what's meant to be a public space.

Sit high enough to see the pitch as a coach sees it, and it becomes a wonderful board on which to play with the doll-like figures of players that, from this height, fulfill their role as actors. The Tribuna Est offers wide and varied angles. The folks here can see well enough to see the game, and if they can see the game, they can hear it. There's a multi-layered aspect to what's happening on the pitch that, from this height, makes the match seem not so much atmospheric as methodical and schematic, and that's a good thing.

Sitting anywhere on the central parts of the tribune offers superb sightlines, and you'll feel as if you're situated at the midfield line, where most of the important action occurs (that is, if you're not situated at the more privileged central sections of the Tribuna Ovest, which we're getting to shortly). If you're situated on a corner of the tribune, the view can be thrilling at times (think of the "endgame" in tackles, attempts at goal, and other action that tends to happen near the touchlines). Unfortunately, your positioning can also create "blind spots" during periods of sustained play at the far end, especially if you're seated in the upper tier and your sightline down to the pitch isn't as perfect as someone seated on a central angle.

If you are behind a goal, it's not much fun when your team is "defending" the goal you're directly facing. Again, the "upper tier" situation comes into play, where your view could be partially blocked depending on the height of the mesh or the solidity of the goalposts.
