Most prominently featured at the stadium, the Jamaica national football team plays at the Independence Park. So does the National Junior track and field team. National and local recreational clubs associated with these two sports use the stadium, too. And when there isn't a club or national team training or competing, the way-finding technology of drones directs runners to the enclosed, safe, sheltered pathway of the Independence Park.
Independence Park and National Stadium, located in Kingston, Jamaica, was designed by architect William W. L. L. Dyer and opened in 1966. The stadium is an iconic monument to the country's independence as it includes elements reminiscent of both the culture and geography of Jamaica. Such elements include the concrete arches that are reminiscent of the hills in Jamaica and a central field that points in the direction of the Caribbean Sea. Since it has opened, the stadium has served as a venue for reggae performances and athletic events commemorating Jamaica's cultural and sporting achievements on both a national and international scale. The most prominent achievement was the Reggae Boyz qualifying for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. Over the next few decades, the stadium will undergo a renovation program that will enhance the security and safety of its patrons; the look and feel of the stadium; and the experience of patrons attending events in the stadium.

Best seats at National Stadium
Those who really want to feel a part of the event should snag tickets in the lower section of the Grandstand, which is the stadium's near equivalent of a "court side" experience. These seats are the closest to the players, and they have the clearest visuals and acoustics for taking in everything that unfolds in the area that the announcer is calling the "Independence Park Bowl." About halfway up the Grandstand, though it is really more of an open-air room than a truly "upper deck," there are suites that look down over the Bowl in a way that not only makes for a good view but also allows the possibility for enacting some very nice plays in hospitality.
The Jamaican government has announced that it will oversee a major redevelopment of the National Stadium, located within Independence Park. In a televised press conference, government officials laid out the timeline and goals of the major transformation project, which is set to begin in August 2025. These officials characterized the overhaul of the stadium structure, which will retain its historic façade, as part of a "renaissance of national heritage." They forecast completion of the project in mid-2027 and assert that the undertaking will rectify numerous integrity and security problems which currently plague the 1962 structure that was built to commemorate the country's independence.
