About Selhurst Park

In thriving south London, Selhurst Park serves as a shining beacon of English football tradition — so full of character and atmosphere. More than the home of Crystal Palace, it stands as a testament to the gritty, passionate heart of London football.

The stadium mixes old and new, creating an atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and contemporary. Four stands combine into a single, whirling pot of noise; the intimidating stuff that visiting teams take away and try to sort out after the game. Selhurst is a cathedral. Any sport can lay claim to its peak experience if you congregate with enough other fans, and this feels like the place for any of them.

Selhurst Park History

In 1924, Selhurst Park opened to receive fans of Crystal Palace, offering them the chance to experience an intimate and intense atmosphere — the hallmark of this stadium, which was designed by one of the preeminent architects of British football, Archibald Leitch. With an original capacity of 25,000, Selhurst Park is not just a landmark in the sport; it is a footballing masterpiece.

For decades, Selhurst Park has witnessed history, from staging international matches to playing host to Real Madrid. The stadium has withstood serious financial challenges and celebrated the kind of triumphs that mirror its club's resilience. Today's modern renovations pay respect to the venue's heritage while answering the demands of contemporary sports architecture; they define Selhurst's lasting appeal.

Selhurst Park Facts and Figures

Selhurst Park accommodates close to 25,486 fans, creating an ideal mix of grandeur and proximity. The field of play spans 101 by 68 meters. Four clear, well-defined stands — the Main Stand, Arthur Wait Stand, Whitehorse Lane Stand, and the very special Holmesdale Stand — hem the pitch in.

Upgrades have introduced modern conveniences but preserved Selhurst's character; the balance between progress and tradition guarantees comfort with no sacrifice of soul — rare in today's stadiums.

Selhurst Park Seating Guide

To get through the seats at Selhurst Park, you need to know the distinct character that each stand possesses. This four-sided ground has very different vibes coming from each stand that it has; the Holmesdale is the loudest and most energy-filled stand you will ever set foot in, whereas the Main Stand is quite and serene — until there is good football to appreciate, of course.

What kind of seat is your ideal seat? The question depends on your priorities. If you want an immersive atmosphere when the home team scores, you might want to be up high, liking the sightline you have down into the bowl. If you want a more tactical perspective of the game, you might want to sit opposite the team bench, so you can see all the players in all the plays they make. If your ideal seat is all about family-friendly comfort, then you're probably just looking for a good place to lounge out and have easy access to amenities when booking.

Best seats at Selhurst Park

The gold standard for sightlines and comfort in the Arthur Wait Stand is level 3. It is for the fans who savor a tactical view of the game. The suites offer an exclusive experience, great for corporate entertainment or special events. Book early for the best chance at a luxury suite.

The Whitehorse Lane Stand is excellent for families. It combines decent views with a relaxed vibe. But if you're after something resembling an atmosphere, you want the Holmesdale's lower sections. It's pitch intensity, baby, all the way on the lower Holmesdale.

Selhurst Park Seating Chart

Seating at Selhurst Park surrounds the playing surface like the petals of a flower. Stadium seating tends to lean, but generous spacing between the rows means the four thousand premium seats in the Main Stand and the three thousand in the Arthur Waite Stand have a clear path to heaven and hell, respectively, when the sun's out.

Arthur Wait Stand enables you to see both home and away fans. It is the upper tier among the best vantage points at Selhurst Park. The Whitehorse Lane Stand is ideal for young supporters. It features family sections. The Holmesdale Stand is the most passionate place to see a football match in south London. There is no more fervent audience for a team than the one that calls the Holmesdale home.

How to get to Selhurst Park

Reaching Selhurst Park also needs advance planning because of the number of ways there are to get there. The stadium's unique location means that it has the sort of authentic atmosphere that is more typical of grounds far from city centres, but that also requires more planning when you visit.

Most people have the option of using direct rail services from central London to get them to the stadium, or of taking one of the many bus routes that serve the area. If you are using public transport on a matchday, allow yourself plenty of time to get to your destination, as demand can lead to delays.

Parking at Selhurst Park

Finding a parking spot close to Selhurst Park is no easy task. It is located in the midst of a web of strictly controlled residential streets with hardly any legal options for passing visitors to park that doesn't fill up within minutes.

On event days, most streets are for residents only, with fines and enforcement that can be described in one word: strict. Pay-and-display parking is available, but only in limited amounts, and only in the hours immediately leading up to the event. If you choose to drive, you're probably best off parking near a train station and using public transport to cover the last few miles. Otherwise, look into the options that are available for ride-sharing or bicycle parking at the stadium.

Public Transportation to Selhurst Park

The stadium is a five-minute walk from Selhurst railway station, which is served by Southern Railway from London Victoria and London Bridge. Crystal Palace, Thornton Heath, and Norwood Junction are other nearby stations, each accessible by a 10-20 minute walk.

There are also bus routes — 50, 157, 169, 254, 410, and 468 — that serve Selhurst Park. For comprehensive guidance, consult the website or app of Transport for London.

Latest Selhurst Park News

Highlighting the future is a friendly match set for July 29, 2025, between Crystal Palace and FSV Mainz 05. The 2025-26 Premier League is packed with promising fixtures, including must-watch visits from Liverpool and Manchester City, not to mention the extra spice added by our rivals Brighton.

As part of a modernization plan, stadium renovations are underway, balancing the necessity of modern improvements against the requirement to maintain the unique character of Selhurst Park.
