About Stade Louis II
Stade Louis II History
Originally reconstructed extensively in the early 1980s to meet the evolving needs of top-level football and international events, the Stade Louis II acquired its signature steep stands and important safety features, making it one of Europe's standout venues. In 2025, the stadium will celebrate 40 years since this transformation with matches, cultural programs, VIP events, and a documentary by Marc Guiraud focusing on the stadium's evolution from 1985 to 2025.
Continued modernization efforts include a €20 million upgrade started in 2023. Additions like energy-efficient LED screens, rainwater harvesting for pitch irrigation, and new solar panels supplying 15% of energy demands are setting the stadium on track for sustainability certification in 2025.
Stade Louis II Facts and Figures
Stade Louis II is located in the Principality of Monaco. This stadium blends intimacy and grandeur, defining modern venues for sport and entertainment. Though its maximum capacity is just 18,500, the enclosed space and steep seating create the feeling of a much larger arena, making every event feel grand and intense.
The pitch at Stade Louis II measures 42 meters in width, slightly less than the UEFA minimum of 45 meters. The stadium's first and second tiers of seating allow fans to feel incredibly close to the action. In the 2019-2020 season, the stadium hosted four events, including three soccer matches and one concert. When France's national football team plays here, the crowd may be smaller than usual, but the atmosphere is electrified as the sound reverberates unlike any other stadium.
