Iron Maiden - Run For Your Lives Tour
Nova Rock with Volbeat, The Cure, Iron Maiden, Bring Me The Horizon - Saturday
With the "Run for Your Lives" tour, Iron Maiden promises not just to rumble but to pull an excavator through the museum of their own history and make a dugout concert worthwhile. The North American leg consists of twelve dates that are closely curated, each making a statement of its own.
The band will appear as the second headliners at the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, sharing the top of the bill with contemporary titans of metal while reminding everyone present of the band that laid the foundation and continues to hold it up well. The European portion of the tour spans the continent like a declaration of territory. They will play respected venues known for their acoustic excellence (Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam); places where football fans and metalheads can coexist (venue legend San Siro in Milan); and hallowed ground where magic has a way of happening (Knebworth Park). Metallica will also give the attendees at the Paris show a chance to participate in the making of archival history by filming the performance for potential home video release.
Expect production values that nudge up against theatrical excess. Eddie in multiple incarnations — from ancient Egypt to the dystopian future of "The Book of Souls" — is just one aspect of the visual spectacle. Then there's the pyrotechnics, timed to Bruce's operatic high notes (irony no doubt intended, given that his voice is a fire hazard). And the lighting. If you're seated in the upper reaches of the stadium, the pre-concert barrage of LED light is quite literally an all-encompassing "light show" — designed to turn you into a light-light (uhm, in light of Bruce's comment about wishing to do a "1967 Summer of Love acid trip" as part of the tour). Expect sensory overload, designed to leave you drooling in worship. Also expect, given that The Book of Souls debuted at No. 1 on the charts in 2015 and that Iron Maiden is far from fading away as a relevant (and profitable) entity, to be reminded that no band holds a monopoly on the pursuit of metal's oblique angles of commercial success and artistic ambition. The spiritual essence of live performance is unveiled — the communion of the band and audience is what truly brings the songs alive. To experience "Fear of the Dark" in concert is to grasp the raw power of communal singing. The moment in the song where Bruce allows the audience to take the melody is, to my mind, one of the highest expressions of what it means to be a performer. Full stop. They are singing something that is not meant to be sung by tens of thousands but that they make beautifully and terrifyingly united: a group of individuals becoming an organism held together by sound. I have seen the band in venues both intimate and vast. They have never not been a powerful, focused, and riveting live act. I have to put a clear disclaimer on this: I am wholly and completely a fan. Their professionalism, intensity, and passion for every performance hold me fast.
Electronic transfers for last-minute purchases. Someone who really likes to hold things can be sure that a real, physical ticket will arrive in the mail, with proof that it was actually sent and received. If anything goes wrong with the purchase, customer service steps in with an attitude more like "we're so sorry that happened" and "let's make it right" than with the "anybody seen my doll head?" indifference you find in some online ticket sellers.
In the unlikely event that a fake ticket makes it through, Ticombo's guarantee ensures that you're not going to be left standing outside the venue. Authentication is not just about checking that the tickets are real. We make sure that the location on the ticket matches where the event is taking place. We also make sure that the type of ticket is what you are expecting. And this is what we do at Ticombo: We make sure that what you buy is what you get.

There are few names in heavy metal that inspire the kind of respect that this British group does. They have been around since 1975, creating an empire of music that builds on driving basslines, beautiful guitar harmonies, and powerful, operatic male vocals that refuse to concede anything to the listener. You have to give it to Bruce Dickinson; this guy could really belt it out and sound great doing it. Steve Harris, the main songwriter and bassist, lays down and builds up the foundation of each tune, and the band's mascot, "Eddie," is kind of like a British Frankenstein. He serves as a connection from group to audience at each concert and has been the grotesque but not quite beautiful face of the band for years.
This 1982 release signaled their emergence as metal heavyweights. The title track's spoken-word intro — complete with Vincent Price's theatrical menace — set the tone for an album that balanced the accessible with the dark (as did the infamous cover art). "Run to the Hills" served as a radio-friendly gateway that got folks sampling the beast, while "Hallowed Be Thy Name" offered up the more demanding goods, yoking together brilliant tempo changes, extended instrumental passages, and a kind of lyrical nastiness — dealing with an execution-eve philosophical crisis — that the metal band had never really gotten into before. Bruce Dickinson's debut here changed everything. The range and power of his voice took melody to earlier unexplored places. The entire album had a narrative arc of its own — one of a seventh son born with clairvoyant abilities struggling to find balance. Keyboards appeared prominently throughout, and the band's sound had become increasingly atmospheric and textured, and this was what purists mourned — the loss of a "heavy" Iron Maiden. But if you look at Iron Maiden's career with some perspective as an "art rock" band, this was the evil thing: becoming too radio-friendly, too commercial, for all the good commercial reasons why one should be "valid" and "successful." That part — the part that got them to number one in the U.K. with no T-shirt sales even remotely connected to a World Cup win — is what I now see as The Evil That Men Do.

The impact of timing on the availability and pricing of tickets cannot be stressed enough. Tours are announced months in advance, but tickets go on sale at all sorts of different times. When the official on-sale happens, it is the first moment of opportunity. Venues set the prices, and the inventory is at its highest level. Sold-out shows do not mean that there are no opportunities left to see the event. Secondary markets like Ticombo activate immediately upon sell-out and connect those with extra tickets to fans who want them. Demand affects pricing — premium prices are paid for shows in major markets, while undesired dates may sell below face value as the event date nears. Consistent monitoring of the ticketing marketplace is required. Prices tend to decrease as the event date nears and sellers realize that unsold tickets mean they are worthless. However, some events see prices that tend to increase toward their respective dates: filmed performances, for instance — like the one that will serve as the basis for the next Iron Maiden concert film — and final dates on a band's last tour, for example. Appearances at major rock festivals — Copenhell, Resurrection Fest — offer another way to access this adjusted pricing structure. "Run for Your Lives" next appears at these two festivals on June 2 and June 3, respectively.
