Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Tournament Information

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships has been a must-play for the best ATP and WTA players ever since we started it, drawn by the tournament's luxury, superb prize money, and first-rate organization. Spread over two weeks, the event features separate men's and women's competitions and holds a strategic place in the tennis calendar, often influencing rankings.

The event, now in its 34th year, is an ATP 500 for the men and a WTA 1000 for the women, boasting a prize purse of over $3.6 million. Its legacy has led it to become even more of a regular stop on the tour for players.

The history of world-class innovation and hospitality has made this event one of tennis's most respected competitions, given its unique blend of world-class play and competition, punctuated with elements of luxury.

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships History

This tournament began in 1993 as an event for ATP male players but soon became an integral part of the tennis world, much like Dubai has become an international hub. Its evolution includes the launch of the women's event in 2001, now a key part of a two-week tennis festival that draws tens of thousands of spectators to Dubai every year.

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium is a magnificent structure that stands as a beacon to the international players in the sport of tennis. Organizational competence and continued investment ensure that the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship is one of the premier stops on the ATP and WTA tours. Dubai Duty Free's ongoing commitment has shaped both the tournament's and city's reputation in international tennis.

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Format

The tournament spans two weeks: the women's WTA 1000 competition takes place from February 14-22, followed by the men's ATP 500 event from February 22 to March 1. Both have a 32-player singles main draw, plus doubles events, in a straight elimination format.

Competition starts on many courts in the early rounds of a tournament. As it progresses, the action shifts to fewer courts and then to center stage for the final matches. Qualifying rounds precede each main draw, providing lower-ranked and emerging players a platform to compete — offering early-round ticket holders the thrill of seeing rising stars up close.

Previous Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Winners

Some of the biggest names in tennis are featured in the event's roll of honor. The men's record is held by Roger Federer, who won 8 times between 2003-2019. The Dubai crowd really vibed with that guy. Novak Djokovic picked up 5 trophies at that same event, his relentless game thriving on these courts. More recently, Daniil Medvedev's 2023 triumph reflects the rise of new stars.

Many Grand Slam champions have raised the trophy in the women's event, and each year's champion elevates what is already an incredibly esteemed tournament. Known for drawing together elite players and producing unforgettable final matches, the women's draw carries with it an undeniable sheen that makes winning it all the more special.

Top Players for this year's Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

The field for the 2026 tournament looks strong, with the final list of entrants to be set nearer to the event. It has traditionally been the case that top-20 players and multiple Grand Slam champs compete, attracted by ranking points, by the event's prestige, and by its generally strong purse.

When it comes to timing — between the Australian Open and North American hard-court events — it ensures players can keep their form on the same sort of surfaces, with Dubai very much a destination of choice for many in the tennis world. Fans can also anticipate that the event will be a coming-out party of sorts for some of the talents just below the very top of the tennis pantheon.
