BTS is an acronym for the Korean phrase Bangtan Sonyeondan, which translates to Beyond The Scene. They are also known as the Bangtan Boys. This seven-member South Korean boy band was created by Big Hit Entertainment (now HYBE) in Seoul, South Korea in 2010. BTS debuted on June 13, 2013. Members include Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. In 2019, they became the first South Korean boy band to present at the Grammy Awards and in 2020, they broke numerous records with the release of the single Dynamite.
Their many records include being the first K-pop group to top the Billboard Hot 100, which they did with 2020's "Dynamite." They're also the most-streamed group on Spotify and the first K-pop group to score a Grammy nom. In 2018-19, their Love Yourself World Tour was the highest-grossing concert tour by any act that sings primarily in a non-English language.
BTS has nine studio albums and six EPs, plus several anthologies and Japanese-language albums. Highlight albums include "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life" trilogy, "Wings," "Love Yourself: Tear" and "Map of the Soul: 7." Highlight singles include "Dynamite," "Butter," "Boy With Luv," "DNA," "Fake Love," "Blood Sweat & Tears" and countless others.
In 2022, BTS went on hiatus so each of the seven members could fulfill their South Korean military requirement. While away, each member worked on solo material and touring, and the band has been reuniting to work on their comeback effort: their fifth Korean-language studio album, "ARIRANG," which drops on March 20, 2026.
"ARIRANG" is the name of BTS' fifth studio album in Korean (and 10th studio album overall), which will drop on March 20, 2026 via Big Hit Music. The album will include 14 tracks and be the group's first studio album in three and a half years. Their last studio project was the anthology album, "Proof," in 2022.
The album's title, "Arirang," is an old Korean folk song known to be a representation of Korea (and designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage). Its history dates back to centuries ago, with lyrics that talk about companionship, separation, missing each other, and eventually meeting again. In a statement to CNN, BigHit Music described the album as a reflection of the band's "roots and proud history of Korean heritage," that contains "longing and deep love."
Pre-orders began on January 16, 2026, and it will be released in various formats, such as CD and vinyl. The member exclusive vinyl versions come in different colors for each member (RM in silver, Jin in pink, SUGA in clear, J-Hope in cream, Jimin in burgundy, V in velvet red, and Jung Kook in orchid) and other editions include the group red vinyl, Modern Korea vinyl and deluxe color and black and white versions.
