About American Express Community Stadium

American Express Community Stadium History

The story of the stadium began years before its 2011 launching — arising from Brighton & Hove Albion's years without a permanent home after losing the Goldstone Ground in 1997. The club spent fifteen years groundsharing, less than fifteen miles from Brighton in east Hastings, longing for stability.

The project encountered several problems before it was given the go-ahead in 2007. Finances and public opinion had to be wrangled. And the whole thing needed to be planned — rather carefully, as it turned out. Enough disputes arose that it was necessary to hold some public inquiries. The construction started in December 2008 and wound its way through several more financial wrangles to achieve its grand opening in October 2013.

The stadium, which was previously called Falmer Stadium, opened in July 2011. Its first match was a friendly played against Tottenham Hotspur. The first match that AmEx was affiliated with was a friendly against Tottenham Hotspur.

Not simply a place to see the home team compete, the stadium is a beacon of fan devotion and an example of community resolve. It is those still-defining characteristics that give the stadium its one-of-a-kind ambiance.

American Express Community Stadium Facts and Figures

Modern architecture is well represented in this stadium, which after various expansions from the original plan, now serves up to almost 49,000 fans. It was originally built to accommodate about 22,500 fans.

Outstanding characteristics consist of its arching, clear roof, its deliciously curvy outline that mirrors the South Downs, and a cantilever construction that not only provides eye-popping aesthetics but also guarantees that every seat in the house is a good one.

The facilities extend well beyond the sport of football; they encompass conference and banquet halls — Mullery's Bar, for instance, named for Alan Mullery — a pavilion for ticketing, a megastore, and a few administrative offices.

The synthetic fibers used in the pitch are blended with natural grass and are durable, of top quality, and almost maintenance-free. This kind of field doesn't just meet Premier League standards; it exceeds them.

American Express Community Stadium Seating Guide

Investigating seat possibilities makes a match meet feel special. The stadium's bowl shape eschews corners — traditional or otherwise — so the seating is somehow both side-to-side and front-to-back. Splendid sightlines and soundwaves, I suspect.

The stadium segregates into North, East, South, and West Stands, each with its own sightlines and atmosphere. The Amex can accommodate any spectator's preference, whether they sit in a family-focused section or one where the support is deafening.

Grasping the layout of the seating enhances your visit. The next sections explain how to choose the best tickets for your needs.

Best seats at American Express Community Stadium

The upper tiers of the West and East Stands are the places to be for unrivaled sightlines and formations. Touchline seating is also quite premium, not just for the Sideline perspective, but also for how close you are to the action. And at the Sideline, you can truly appreciate what is going down.

The West Stand has only the best hospitality areas and seating options, but we don't stop there. The lower tiers of the West Stand offer a superb vantage point for any on-pitch activity, making it an excellent option for those who want to feel the game rather than just watch it.

The North Stand, famous for its ardent supporters, provides an unbeatable atmosphere that appeals to those in search of real football culture. Family groups prefer the tranquil spaces of the South Stand, with its dedicated family areas.

American Express Community Stadium Seating Chart

The intuitive and easy-to-navigate seating layout of the stadium allows for simple seat location. Sections, color-coded in bright tones, make it easy to arrive at that as-yet-unoccupied seat.

Sections SL1-SL7 (lower) and SU1-SU7 (upper) on the South Stand face toward the coast, making for an opposite vantage point to that of the North Stand. The stands comprise Brighton & Hove Albion's "wall of noise."

The East Stand touches one sideline and has EL1-EL9 (lower) and EU1-EU9 (upper) seats. The West Stand contains WL1-WL9 and WU1-WU9, with the very special box for directors and the nicer seats in hospitality areas.

Main stands connect through corners to combinations that bear the names NE, SE, SW, and NW. Lower numbers in a row denote seats that are closer to the pitch. Rows of seats are numbered from front to back.

How to get to American Express Community Stadium

Located in Falmer, 5.5 miles northeast of central Brighton, the Amex is accessible by many means of transport, a feature of its original design.

Next to the A27, which connects Brighton and Lewes, sits the stadium. It combines the convenient access of a main road with the scenic approach of a cul-de-sac emerging from the South Downs beside the stadium.

Driving may be all the rage, but sustainable travel is the goal — using public transit and special match day services to promote safe and reliable travel for all. Below is direct transit info, plus a few easy-to-follow guidelines for getting here, there, and everywhere around the stadium.

Parking at American Express Community Stadium

Parking should be reserved in advance. On-site parking costs £18 and is limited, particularly during large events.

The economic alternatives consist of park-and-ride locations at Mill Road and Brighton Racecourse. Both offer shuttle services to and from matches.

Supporters with disabilities have parking that is close to entrances. This is arranged in advance and usually involves the use of a Blue Badge.

Do not park on the street without permission. Unauthorized vehicles will be ticketed and towed. These guys work for the neighborhoods around here. They do not fool around. And don't think you can get by just because you're a van lifer. Some people see you and might tell the authorities. Parking enforcement has been known to canvass areas where recent sightings have been reported. To avoid all that, assure yourself a safe place to park by going for a paid lot or an RV park.

Public Transportation to American Express Community Stadium

Public transport to the stadium is excellent, and centered on Falmer Station, just minutes from the gates. Trains from Brighton run every ten minutes on event days — a fast eight to nine-minute trip — with services also from Lewes and London Victoria.

Most tickets for matches include complimentary train or bus travel for match days, which operates within a specific area, called a 'designated zone' — show your ticket for access. Buses add further flexibility, with direct services from central Brighton and the surrounding area.
