About Aviva Stadium

Aviva Stadium History

The timetable for the project was strict, with the construction of the structural shell wrapped up by the end of 2009. By May 2010, the stadium was open for official business. The stadium's signature design feature is its see-through polycarbonate façade, formed by 8,000 glowing panels that cover the stadium. This material doesn't just provide an arresting visual profile — daylight filters through to the concourse, more or less eliminating the need for artificial lighting — but it also renders the concourse thermally comfortable, allowing any excess indoor heat to vent naturally. The concourse vents excess indoor heat, and the seating bowl captures any excess indoor heat for an outdoor night game.

Aviva Stadium Facts and Figures

With a seating capacity of 51,700, the arena hosts a large lower bowl dominated by the facility's vented concourse glazing. The upper bowl forms the faceted rooflines with cleverly sectioned retractable roof components allowing a pathway of light. Upper-tier hospitality boxes provide unprecedented views for those combining luxury with panoramic perspectives. The upper-tier, corner seats offer a head-on glance at the action along with an oblique look at developments in the opposite end zone. The upper tier was designed as part of the skyline, covering a broad curve. From all upper-tier seating, audiences can watch developments on the opposite sideline, granting a full sightline of plays unfolding vertically and horizontally.

Best Seats at Aviva Stadium

Upper-tier hospitality boxes offer unprecedented views for audiences who enjoy combining luxury with a panoramic perspective. The upper-tier, corner-seated fan appears to have the best of both worlds: a head-on glance at the action and an oblique look at developments in the opposite end zone. The stadium upper tier was designed to serve as an integral part of the skyline, with the visual sweep of the stands covering a broad curve. From all upper-tier seating, audiences also enjoy watching the developments in the opposite sideline, making it one of the best places in the stadium from which to get a full sightline of plays unfolding vertically and horizontally.

Aviva Stadium Seating Chart

The arena, despite its slick use of façade panels and thermal dimples, forms a pretty traditional two-row setup. The seats fill a large lower bowl dominated by the facility's properly vented concourse glazing. The upper bowl makes up the faceted rooflines, and some cleverly sectioned retractable roof components allow for a pathway of light.

How to get to Aviva Stadium

Parking at Aviva Stadium

Attendees are urged to make parking reservations far in advance of game day, as the immediate area (lots such as in the Grand Canal Dock and Sandymount) fills up very quickly during sporting events. Parking is restricted within a 200-meter radius of the stadium, and fines are doled out to those who dare to test the system. The website has a nifty feature that allows real-time monitoring of parking availability in a select number of offsite garages and lots.

Public Transportation to Aviva Stadium

The local transport agency (Transport for Ireland) takes traffic away from this part of town on game day by taking advantage of the light rail line; there are trams that run to Lansdowne Road, which is just a five-minute walk from the stadium on a normal day, and virtually right across the street when the stadium's entrance is in use. At event time, Dublin Bus guns it through the neighborhood but doesn't quite serve the stadium. A few bus routes (4, 7, 7A, 46A, e.g.) will get you to a few of the nearby neighborhoods.
