About Stadion Galgenwaard

Stadion Galgenwaard History

Stadion Galgenwaard traces its origins to a municipal decision in the early 1970s to replace the older Ophir ground. Groundbreaking took place in 1979 and the venue opened in 1982 with an inaugural friendly. Over time the stadium evolved: a major expansion added a Western stand raising capacity to around 19,500, and subsequent renovations modernized the exterior and facilities. The 2004 renovation in particular helped establish the stadium as a contemporary European football venue.
