The teams that can still qualify are divided into two categories: those in the European (UEFA) play-offs and those in the Inter-confederation play-offs.
European (UEFA) Play-offs
There are 16 European teams currently competing in the UEFA play-offs for the final four European spots at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. These teams consist of 12 group runners-up from the initial qualifying stage and four teams that qualified via the UEFA Nations League. The play-offs are structured as single-leg knockout matches divided into four separate paths (Paths A, B, C, and D). Inter-confederation Play-offs
