Serie A Tournament Information

Serie A is the top tier of Italian football and the league to produce more European Cup finalists than any other outside Spain. It features twenty teams playing each other home and away across 38 rounds, with three points for a win and one for a draw. The top four finishers earn a spot in the Champions League, with more Europa League and Conference League places below that and the bottom three teams relegated to Serie B.

It is the defending and the stadium atmosphere that makes Italian football stand out. Matches begin slower than in England and proceed with far more care, and the terraces behind each goal are active for 90 minutes straight. With your Serie A tickets you get the whole package – the strategic battle on the pitch and the fireworks and signs that don't air on TV.

Serie A History

Italy's national competition started in 1898, but the current Serie A format, which pits every team against every other team once a year, began in the 1929/30 season when Internazionale were crowned champions. The teams of Milan and Juventus dominated in the postwar years, and in the 80s and 90s Serie A was widely regarded as the best league on Earth. Maradona led Napoli to glory and Milan were ruled by Van Basten and Gullit, while Inter brought in an army of German stars in the latter years of the decade.

Juventus own 36 league titles, the most of any club, followed by Inter Milan on 21 and AC Milan on 19. Napoli have four, two of them coming in the past few seasons. Roma, Lazio, Fiorentina and Bologna are the other current clubs to have won the league.

Serie A Format

Twenty teams, 38 matchweeks, 380 games, August to May. Three points for a victory, one for a draw, zero for a loss.

Serie A has an unbalanced schedule, something fans outside Italy often don't realise: the second-half matches aren't played in the reverse order of the first. If you attend a game in September it's unlikely you'll see the opposing team again in the corresponding week of the spring.

The four teams finishing highest get a place in the Champions League league phase, with fifth and sixth going into the Europa League and seventh into a Conference League qualifying round. The winner of the Coppa Italia also receives a European berth; if those sides qualify for a higher tournament the spot falls down to the next-best team in the table. The bottom three are dropped to Serie B and replaced by the champions, the runners-up and a play-off winner.

Last season's winners

Inter Milan won the 2025/26 scudetto — their 21st — after beating Parma 2-0 at home on 3 May 2026 with three games left. Lautaro Martínez was the top scorer with 17 goals. They also won the Coppa Italia and because they had secured a Champions League spot via their league position, the cup winners' European berth was passed down the table.

Como were the story of the season, joining Inter, Napoli and Roma in the Champions League — which is impressive considering they were recently promoted to the top flight and play at a lakefront stadium that holds just 13,000 fans. Juventus and AC Milan took the Europa League places, while Pisa, Hellas Verona and Cremonese went down.

Top teams for 2026/27 Serie A

Inter will be defending their title with the most even roster in the league and playing at the biggest venue — the San Siro has a capacity of 80,018. In fact, their home fixtures tend to have the most ticket listings of any team in Italy, with 300 to 750 available per game.

Juventus will want to get back in the thick of it at the Allianz Stadium — the only purpose-built stadium of the old four and the one most often at capacity. AC Milan will be continuing to build a young side while continuing to share San Siro with their rivals. Napoli will be looking to defend their recent scudetto at the Maradona, one of the loudest stadiums in Europe. Roma and Lazio will both be fighting for a Champions League spot from the Stadio Olimpico, and Atalanta will continue the exciting brand of football that has made Bergamo a real tourist destination.

One of the promoted sides is Venezia, who were promoted as Serie B champions and play at the Pier Luigi Penzo, a venue that can only be accessed by boat and one of the most unique footballing experiences anywhere in the world.

Experience Serie A live

A match day in Italy revolves around the curva. Behind each goal the supporters create a spectacle for the duration of the match, waving flags, beating drums and displaying enormous tifos that take weeks to make but only 30 seconds to reveal. What you see on TV is about a tenth of what happens on match day, and is often shown only on replays following a goal.

The grounds themselves are some of the most beautiful and diverse in Europe. The San Siro in Milan is the largest stadium in Italy at 80,018 and the only stadium in Europe shared by two such large clubs. In Rome, the Stadio Olimpico is home to both Roma and Lazio and features an athletics track around the pitch but the Curva Sud more than makes up for the distance. The Maradona in Naples is the loudest. In Genoa, the Luigi Ferraris is the oldest stadium in Italy, with four steep, English-style grandstands with no running track. And in Venice, the Penzo is reached by vaporetto.

Buy 100% authentic Serie A tickets with buyer protection

All tickets listed on Ticombo are verified by our Ticket Team before being published. We hold your payment safely until we can confirm delivery of the tickets. In the event that a seller does not provide the tickets, that they do not match the description or if the fixture is cancelled, we have a buyer protection scheme to cover you.

There's just one rule you need to be aware of before you purchase any Italian football tickets. Most Serie A tickets are nominative. That means that the person attending is printed on the ticket and may be required to show photo ID at the turnstile. This tends to apply most often to derbies and high-risk matches, where there might be a chance of violence. Ensure you buy from a trusted reseller who will perform the change of name correctly. An untrustworthy seller will sell you a ticket in someone else's name and you'll be left standing outside the stadium.

There are also two stadiums shared between two teams, which introduces another potential issue. Both San Siro and Stadio Olimpico host two teams, so the same ground can feature different listings depending on which team is named as the home team. Be sure to check what the match is called and who is playing at home before making a purchase.

Serie A Ticket Costs

Prices for Serie A 2026/27 tickets depend on the match, the popularity of the home club, the type of seat and when you buy them. Football in Italy is still good value compared to other top-five European leagues.

On the cheap end of the spectrum, an AC Milan home game against a mid-table opponent is listed from around €18 (570+ listings). Inter start their season against Monza from €39, while their matches against Udinese and Parma are from €60. Torino vs Bologna is from €54. These are standard tickets for San Siro and the Olimpico at prices you wouldn't get in England.

A mid-level ticket ranges from €70 to €150. Lazio vs Atalanta is from €132, and Como vs Fiorentina is from €149.

The derbies and matches featuring the biggest clubs cost more. The Derby d'Italia (Inter vs Juventus at San Siro) is from €161 (555 listings), Roma vs Inter is from €162, and Napoli vs Roma is from €176. Make no mistake, the Derby della Madonnina and the Derby della Capitale are different beasts to a standard home game and should be priced accordingly.

Seats follow a typical layout across Italian stadia. The Curva is the area behind the goals, usually the cheapest and definitely the loudest. The Distinti are located in the corners and are the middle ground. The Tribuna is situated on the sideline and commands the highest prices.

When to Purchase Serie A Tickets

While the fixture list will be released before the season begins, exact dates and kick-off times will only be known four to six weeks before a game once broadcasters have chosen which matches to show. This is the main thing you need to know when purchasing Serie A tickets.

If a derby or a match that could impact the championship is coming up, purchase tickets as soon as they go on sale. They won't drop in price. For every other game, buy between three and six weeks before the match. Fans with season tickets will return any they can't use, and supply will peak. Ticket prices tend to be at their lowest point.

This isn't always true at smaller grounds. Como have a capacity of 13,000, while Frosinone and Venezia are even smaller. As a result, a mid-table game at one of these venues can be harder to secure than a match involving a bigger club in Milan. If you're hoping to attend an away game at one of the smaller stadia, buy before your big fixture.

Bear in mind that because kick-off times aren't announced until much later in the process, a game you've bought tickets for on a Saturday afternoon may be switched to Sunday evening or Monday. Build a spare day into any trip planned around a specific fixture.
